![]() An escalating problem - Theft of metal is on the riseAs a leading insurer of historical heritage properties, Ecclesiastical has seen an increase in the theft of metals from insured premises. As at the end of September 2007 Ecclesiastical has received more than 1,348 claims for the year, at an estimated total cost of almost £4.4 million for Anglican churches alone, but schools and heritage properties are also being targeted. For more information click here |
How can CPS help?CPS is working together with Ecclesiastical and SmartWater to try and prevent the theft of metal. Ecclesiastical has purchased the SmartWater trademark rights which enables its customers to obtain supplies of SmartWater at discounted rates, to treat their roofs. |
What is SmartWater?SmartWater is a forensic property marker which can be applied to copper and lead, as well as internal church valuables. No two SmartWater systems have the same forensic code, meaning marked items can be irrefutably traced back to the church, and criminals coming into contact with SmartWater can be linked with the crime scene. The solution is invisible under normal light, but glows brightly under UV light making it easily identifiable by the police. For further details please visit the 'SmartWater' website at www.smartwater.com |
![]() Application and SafetyYou can apply SmartWater with a paint brush. Where security marking is to be applied on roofs, appropriate safety precautions identified from risk assessment should be followed. Warning notices highlighting that security marking has been used are an effective deterrent and should be prominently displayed around the property. How can I order SmartWater? To obtain a 50ml, 200ml or 500ml bottle ring CPS now on 0845 458 4584.Each order will come with a paint brush and an A5 External Warning Sign. |
