 An escalating problem - Theft of metal is on the riseAs a leading insurer of historical heritage properties, Ecclesiastical has seen an increase in the theft of metals from insured premises. As at the end of September 2007 Ecclesiastical has received more than 1,348 claims for the year, at an estimated total cost of almost £4.4 million for Anglican churches alone, but schools and heritage properties are also being targeted.For more information click here |

What is SmartWater?SmartWater is a forensic property marker which can be applied to copper and lead, as well as internal church valuables. No two SmartWater systems have the same forensic code, meaning marked items can be irrefutably traced back to the church, and criminals coming into contact with SmartWater can be linked with the crime scene. The solution is invisible under normal light, but glows brightly under UV light making it easily identifiable by the police. Where security marking is to be applied on roofs, appropriate safety precautions identified from risk assessment should be followed.
